Investment in local SMEs to support Proof of Concept

Medipex are delighted to be part of the delivery consortium for a new Proof Of Concept (POC) programme that has been organised and funded by the Yorkshire and Humber Academic Health Science Network (YHAHSN). Medipex, along with Medilink and Devices for Dignity, will be delivering specialist consultancy to four successful companies funded under the scheme.

The programme is a regional funding competition for SMEs who have a concept that will benefit either a paediatric need or a long term condition. It was launched in November 2015 and the successful companies were shortlisted in December 2015.

Successful companies receive £18,000 of bespoke consultancy advice from the consortium delivery organisations and a £5,000 development fund to spend on product development.

Kick-off meetings with the successful companies occurred at the beginning of January 2016 and the programme will finish at the end of March 2016.

The aim of the programme is to provide successful companies with advice about the validity of their concept taking into account the following:

  • Value proposition
  • Competitor analysis
  • Intellectual property
  • Market size and value
  • Commercialisation plan
  • Managing risk
  • Patient and public engagement strategy
  • Grant proposals

Dr Fabian Seymour from Medipex has said “This is a superb new programme which has been designed to assist companies with very early stage ideas and concepts that might otherwise struggle to secure more established, national grant funding. We are all hoping that by the end of the programme, each company will have a much clearer idea of how to progress their idea and it will be very interesting to see how they get on. Meeting with the successful applicants was extremely exciting and I think we all felt incredibly enthused about working with them.”
