Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals new Chief Executive Announced

Message from Suzy Brain England, Chair of the Board of Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals

I am delighted to announce that Richard Parker has been appointed as Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals’ Chief Executive Officer.

Selected after a robust recruitment process which culminated in interviews last month, Richard was appointed to lead the Trust, the outstanding candidate in a particularly strong field of shortlisted applicants.

Richard was selected because we believe he has the vision to provide the best possible service for our communities, along with the knowledge to transform what the Trust does for the better. He has shown a canny ability to listen to and motivate staff, focus on patient need and serve as an effective partner to a great range of stakeholders, all of which will help us meet the wider health and social care necessities of our patients.

Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Quality since 2013, Richard has overseen substantial improvements to the Trust’s overall performance, helping to significantly enhance the quality of clinical services. In this role, Richard was primarily focused on ensuring that we deliver safe, effective and quality services for the people of Doncaster, Bassetlaw and beyond, and I believe this will continue as he assumes the wider responsibilities of Chief Executive.

I find it particularly pleasing to see Richard rise to this position as early in his career, the Trust encouraged and supported him in the undertaking of a Master of Business Administration degree (Health and Social Care), a skill investment in which we are now seeing a valuable return.

Now as Chief Executive, I expect Richard to renew the Trust’s emphasis on care, engaging with Team DBTH to ensure we deliver safe, effective and quality services for the communities that we serve. We’ve been very fortunate to have someone of Richard’s calibre and experience within the Trust for a number of years and I expect that his leadership and vision will continue to shape the organisation.

We have seen a lot of changes at the Trust in a relatively short period of time, but despite any challenges along the way, I believe we face a very bright future and are about to embark on an exciting new chapter as a Teaching Hospital.

Moira Hardy, Deputy Director of Nursing will step up as Acting Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Quality.
