Innovation showcase, Celebrating NHS innovators

Shared learning to develop an embedded innovation culture in the NHS was the order of the day on Thursday 13th October when NHS partners from across the Yorkshire & Humber Innovation Champions Network and the North East & North Cumbria Innovation Scout Network joined forces at a dedicated showcase event held to:

  • Celebrate the achievements of NHS innovators
  • Catalyse the development of new relationships and shared learning within and between regions
  • Develop new means to facilitate the adoption and spread of innovative ideas, inventions and best practice across organisations.

Innovation Champions and Scouts and their colleagues were also encouraged to enter the Business Case and peer-judged Poster competitions for the opportunity to win proof of concept funding to advance development of their innovations.

[The event] was really fab. The level of innovation taking place within actual Trusts is now looking so very much better! Some of them are absolutely brilliant. There were several people I want to make further contact with from both regions!” Sally Gell, NAViGO Health and Social Care CIC, Grimsby

The event was a joint venture organised by the Yorkshire & Humber and North East and North Cumbria Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs), and their respective Innovation Champion and Innovation Scout Network partners, Medipex Ltd and NHS Innovations North.

There were some fantastic entries and speakers from both regions who shared their experiences of innovation in the NHS. The event would not have been a success without everyone’s enthusiasm and dedication to share and learn” Dr Rachel Turnbull, Project Manager at North East AHSN

Philippa Hedley-Takhar, Head of Investment & Partnerships at Yorkshire & Humber AHSN said “We thoroughly enjoyed hosting the event and celebrating the determination and success of our NHS innovators. We hope the event has catalysed the start of many fruitful relationships to maximise the benefit of shared learning and spread of adoption of new ideas across NHS organisations.”

The Innovation Champion Network and Innovation Scout Scheme aim to empower individuals to promote and support innovative activities within their NHS organisations, to encourage colleagues to come forward with their ideas and inventions and promote the spread and adoption of new best practice and technologies between NHS organisations.

Thank you for a wonderful afternoon and all your hard work to create the first trans-regional showcase event. I thought the whole thing was great! There is so much to post process and disseminate across our Trust” Richard Caley, Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust, Wakefield.
