Medipex Business Surgery event – SMEs Access to the NHS
On Thursday 8th October, Medipex hosted a Business Surgery event on SMEs Access to the NHS, designed to provide SMEs interested in promoting and selling their products and services into the NHS, with a better understanding of the NHS environment and support available in accessing this market. The event took place at Oulton Hall in Leeds and was supported by Enterprise Europe Network.
The event attracted interest from many companies, within and from outside the region, with 25 companies booked to attend. There was the opportunity for networking as well as time for members of Medipex to talk to individual companies about their innovations and possible routes into the NHS market.
We then heard from Dick Clark, Joint CEO of Medipex about aspects of the NHS innovation landscape, pitfalls to avoid and helpful tips for companies developing new products and then from Leo Donato, innovation Advisor of Enterprise Europe Network about the different funding streams available to companies and those looking to form consortia. Finally we had an extremely interesting keynote talk from Steve Tooke, Commercial Development Manager of Unite and Ignite Ltd and his journey from concept to product he took and how he was able to engage with the NHS and local universities at all states of development.
Following this successful event, we have been able to start following up leads with a number of companies and are planning another business surgery event around a funding theme to be announced.
