NIHR Health Protection Research Units competition

Closing Date: 25 March 2013

The NIHR has launched a competition to designate and fund new Health Protection Research Units that will act as centres of excellence in multi-disciplinary health protection research in England.

Health Protection Research Units (HPRUs) will be partnerships between universities and Public Health England (PHE), in a range of priority areas. For each priority research area, funding will be awarded to a single university working in partnership with PHE. The units will support PHE in delivering its objectives and function for the protection of the public’s health.

PHE will be established in April 2013 and will incorporate the responsibilities of the existing Health Protection Agency. Funding for the HPRUs will commence in April 2014, to support the research costs incurred by the university/PHE partnership in carrying out an approved programme of multidisciplinary research, including the funding of research salaries.
