Sacral Support Arm
The clinical engineers and technologists of the Medical Engineering section of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have developed the Sacral Support Arm, which provides patient support without compromising access to the hips. It provides maximum access for a plaster cast to be constructed around the hips by the surgeon. It allows access for radiographs to be taken using portable radiographic equipment so that the surgeon can ensure that the hips are plastered in the desired position.
The device has been CE Marked and a full set of design drawings and design specifications are available. Currently small quantities of the Sacral Support Arm can be purchased from Medipex’s e-commerce website www.ennovations.co.uk.
We are also seeking to identify a commercial partner who is interested in exploiting this idea or for licensing of the manufacturing rights to a sub-contract fabricator.
