A brief resumé of each member of staff is given below:

 

 

Richard Clark - Chief Executive


A successful business development strategist who in the last 15 years has helped establish many innovative healthcare organisations and has managed 3 of them himself. Richard’s career spans over 30 years as a chartered engineer in project management in diverse sectors including energy, environmental industry and most recently in medical engineering. During this time he acquired a broad base both of managerial and technical skills together with an ability to manage projects on time and within budget and with particular emphasis on technology transfer.

He has published over 15 technical papers, acted as an international environmental consultant, been co-chair and presented technical papers at numerous international conferences on advanced power generation and has several patents to his name.

Ann Starkey - Deputy CEO & Company Secretary

Ann has over 25 years experience of working at the interface between Higher Education and Healthcare Sector, latterly in research and project management in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds University. Prior to joining Medipex she was part of the Executive Team that set up the Company and her role within the company is that of general and operations manager. 
She has an MBA with Distinction, from the University of Leeds (2007) She is a Visiting Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University , and was recently appointed Chair of the Transatlantic Business Council’s Healthcare Advisory Board.
 

 

Dr Lyndon Judd - Senior IP Manager 


Lyndon joined Medipex from the Graduate Research School of the University of Sunderland where he held the position of Intellectual Property Manager. In this position he was responsible for identifying and protecting the intellectual property assets of the University, together with negotiating and drafting research contracts and licence agreements. He holds a PhD in recombinant vaccine technology and a BSc (Hons) in Zoology both from the University of Nottingham together with a Diploma in Legal Practice from Northumbria University and a certificate in Intellectual Property law from the University of Bristol.
 

At Medipex he provides advice to NHS staff on matters relating to IP issues and their management. He is responsible for negotiating and drafting licence agreements and also for production of documents relating to the creation and management of NHS Trust spin-out companies. As a member of the Medipex Senior Executive Team he is directly involved with the strategic development of Medipex and assists with the company’s legal and insurance matters.

Dr Terry Corbitt - Senior IP Manager 

Dr Terry Corbitt joined Medipex in May 2004 from the University of Hull Research Enterprise Office where he was the Intellectual Property & Contracts Manager with responsibility for the management and exploitation of the University’s IP portfolio and negotiation of contracts. Previously Terry was employed by MAFF Central Science Laboratory 'CSL' and King's College London. At CSL he was responsible for the administration/co-ordination of the IP portfolio and commercial activities including license and other agreements. At King's he was employed as a Technology Transfer Executive in Bioscience.

Stephanie Bridgford - Customer Service Manager

Stephanie joined Medipex in 2004 and is responsible for developing strong relationships with the NHS Primary Care Trusts regarding services we can offer them around the innovation agenda.  She has worked in a Customer Service role for over 25 years and has recently been successful in leading Medipex through their Customer First accreditation.  

Stephanie’s knowledge in project management enables her to assist inventors to commercialise their products in the area of Publications and Training Materials.  This consists mainly of books, DVD, CDs and information packs etc and she will assess the feasibility of investing in these products. She also manages the order processing and financial systems of the ennovations website, an e-commerce website which can help to promote and sell some of these innovative products.  Stephanie continues to manage the annual NHS Innovation Competition and Awards Ceremony for the Yorkshire and Humber region and monitors the success of all Medipex events through analysis of feedback.

Before joining Medipex, Stephanie worked to the Professor of Midwifery Studies/Director of the Mother and Infant Research Unit at the University of Leeds . She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Project Management and a Masters degree (Distinction) from the Leeds University Business School.  

 

Agnes Crutchard - Business Development/Market Research Analyst

Agnes joined Medipex in March 2010 and is now in charge of the assessment of incoming Medical Innovations and their potential as future prospects.

Agnes was previously employed by an International Research & Project Development Group, as Head of Research. As part of her role, she was responsible for the investigation of new Environmental Technologies and identification of market opportunities. She has 9 years experience as a Research Analyst in the New Technologies sector. Agnes holds a Master degree in Marketing Management from the University Paris XIII.

Dr Chris Herbert- Business Development Manager


Originally a Molecular Biologist with an interest in cancer and gene therapy, Chris’s background is as a research scientist, working in both the academic and commercial sectors, with a particular interest in translating and commercialising basic research for clinical benefit.  Since joining Medipex in 2006, Chris has gained significant experience in a number of different areas relating to identifying promising innovations, evaluation and commercialisation and he has developed a particular interest in how the development and adoption of innovative products can be accelerated.  Chris is recognised for his expertise on the ever-changing NHS procurement landscape and the wider barriers within the NHS for the adoption of innovations, producing a number of reports and presentations on this subject.

hris's role at Medipex is to work with medical technology companies to help them engage better with the NHS in the Yorkshire and Humber region for the purposes of new product development and trialing.  This work aims to assist companies to quickly identify clinicians for R&D collaborations or clinical trials and to get these projects set up whilst also helping them to understand what the barriers to adoption for innovative products might be and to help them overcome these.  Chris is also part of the operations team for the Yorkshire Health Innovation Network project which aims to help companies identify what the healthcare market might look like in 5 - 10 years time and how to meet the challenges that this poses.

Dr Geraint Lewis - IP Manager


Geraint joined Medipex in January 2007 and has responsibility for the management of intellectual property and its commercialization through licensing or new company formation. Previously he worked on collaborative academic-industry research projects with Pharmacia (now Pfizer) and GlaxoSmithKline in the areas of human genetics and microbial biochemistry.  More recently, his activities include providing assistance and support on intellectual property and commercialization matters to NHS organizations including the NIHR Bone & Cardiac Biomedical Research Centres and the NIHR Devices4Dignity Healthcare Technology Cooperative.

Geraint has a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Leicester , BSc in Biotechnology from Cardiff University , and a Diploma in Business Enterprise from the University of Glamorgan.

Liz Maddaford - IT and Business Development Officer

Liz has worked with Medipex for over 2 years and during that time her role has grown into that of IT and Business Development Officer.  Prior to starting with Medipex Liz spent 8 years working for the Research Department in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Leeds.  Having worked on numerous IT projects, Liz produced several databases to help manage the Faculty’s RAE submission, including a performance management system to monitor the outputs and KPIs of the academic staff involved in the submission. 

Liz is now responsible for working with companies across the UK to establish a link into the regions clinical expertise to ultimately set-up clinical trials of medical devices. Liz is also the primary link into the Yorkshire Comprehensive Local Research Networks (bodies of the NIHR).  Liz holds a BA Degree in Business Information Technology from the University of Huddersfield.

Rebecca Dickinson - Administration Officer and PA to the Chief Executive

Rebecca joined Medipex in February 2008 after studying Administration for 3 years and obtaining her BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners. She is PA to the Chief Executive and Administration Officer.  Rebecca is responsible for assisting with the organisation of the annual Innovation competition and Award Ceremony.  She provides content management of the Medipex website and manages the quarterly e-newsletters. She provides administrative support to all staff and is the first point of contact for customers and visitors to Medipex.

Kathryn Mason - Marketing Consultant


With over 7 years of skills as an international marketing professional, Kathryn joined Medipex in July 2009 as the Marketing Consultant and Ennovations website manager.  Since joining Medipex, Kathryn has an excellent record of implementing and managing all the marketing functions and achieving goals.  Kathryn is mainly responsible for ensuring the Ennovations Online Store is fit for purpose and increases the market penetration and share on NHS products sold via the website or though license deals.  

On a daily basis, Kathryn analyses marketing data and other intelligence and produces marketing reports to support the commercial exploitation of innovative medical technology.  Kathryn attends regular meetings with other NHS Innovation Hubs, NHS Trusts and various healthcare companies to help develop and disseminate their ideas and to raise the profile of Medipex and the Ennovations Online Store in order to expand the product range and categories on the site.

Prior to joining Medipex, Kathryn worked for Syntax Integration, an IT support company in London as a Marketing Executive.  Kathryn was born in Belgium and completed her Modern Languages studies in Dutch before attaining a Business Administration and European Management with French (BBA) degree from the University of Kent.
