Medipex was selected as Bradford Bright Ideas Programme co-lead to help Bradford CCGs rapidly identify and procure well-evidenced technologies.

Bright Ideas programmeThe customer need:

Bradford CCGs identified the requirement for a suitable process to identify well-evidenced technologies that they could rapidly procure to meet defined NHS clinical needs and health priorities. Such a process needed to be systematic and objective and provide a simple way to engage with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that could offer suitable market-ready technologies to address key health and wellbeing challenges in Bradford. An idea for a ‘Bradford Bright Ideas’ (BBI) programme was conceived.

Project challenge:

The BBI team sought a reliable co-lead for this programme that would help them to establish and embed a process to meet the need defined above. The programme also needed to be aligned to Bradford’s strategies and priorities and support innovation as part of Bradford’s transformation programmes.

How did Medipex help?

Medipex was selected as programme co-lead because of its successful track record in innovation assessment and project management. Medipex played a key role in the decision-making processes within the project including scoping suitable unmet clinical needs to focus on as well as producing and using a rapid, easy to deploy two-stage technology assessment model. This enabled objective ranking of the technologies that were put forward by SMEs and judging of the applications to identify five shortlisted candidates to pitch to a panel of experts at a ‘Dragon’s Den’-style event. Medipex also helped to manage the relationship with the applicant SMEs.

Impact:

The programme launch event attracted 70 organisations to attend, resulting in over 25 expressions of interest being submitted for review. The winning technology, an innovative software developed by mHealth Ltd that helps patients better manage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (known as ‘MyCOPD’), was commissioned as part of the Bradford Breathing Better programme for use within the NHS to deliver patient benefits.
